Please note that the Course will use the dialect of South Wales. If you are currently learning Welsh in North Wales, you are welcome to attend the course and your tutor will be able to help you by explaining any differences in the language.
Mynediad / Beginners
A course for complete beginners with a strong emphasis on conversational Welsh. The themes studied will include personal details and the past.
- For those who attend a weekly class with us during the year, the first two weeks will complete Beginners 1 and the last 2 weeks will complete Beginners 2.
Sylfaen / Foundation
Equal to Welsh Second Language GCSE level.
A course that will improve your Welsh oral skills in various situations. You should have recently completed around 120 hours of Welsh study or equivalent to join this level.
- For those who attend a weekly class with us during the year, the first two weeks will complete Foundation 1 and the last 2 weeks will complete Foundation 2.
Canolradd / Intermediate
Equal to Welsh GCSE level.
The emphasis will remain on speaking, but more written, reading and listening work is introduced. By the end of this level, you should be confident enough to be able to hold a conversation on everyday subjects.
- For those who attend a weekly class with us during the year, the first two weeks will complete Intermediate 1 and the last 2 weeks will complete Intermediate 2.
Uwch 1 / Higer 1
Equal to AS level.
You will be concentrating on oral skills and building your confidence in being able to develop the ability to discuss day to day issues in more depth. Patterns and gramatical points will be practised in order to develop a further understanding. Language rules will be studied.
Uwch 2 / Higher 2
Equal to A-Level.
Following on from Uwch 1, you will still be concentrating on oral skills and develop the ability to discuss day to day issues in further depth. You will be introduced to Welsh in its cultural context, whether it be on radio, television, or some of the nation's favourite poems. The Course will also help you write a good standard of Welsh.
